Preserving Cultural Knowledge and Strengthening Resilience

Welcome to Voices of Nepal, a page dedicated to celebrating and learning from communities throughout Nepal. 

Nepal is a country nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, bordered by China to the north and India to the south. In 2015, Nepal was struck by a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and left lasting impacts on infrastructure, health systems and rural livelihoods. The disaster disproportionately affected remote mountain communities, where access to health care, education and economic opportunity—especially for women—was already limited.

 In the years since, recovery efforts have focused on rebuilding physical infrastructure and on strengthening local resilience and community development.  Our work in Nepal seeks to honor and amplify the lived experiences of people in these regions—especially women—preserving cultural knowledge and supporting their aspirations for a healthier, more equitable future.
